Simon York's experience uniquely spans strategy consulting, principal investing, operational management and investment banking. For over 30 years he has led and advised on transactions, and developed and implemented successful growth strategies.
For over 5 years he has been a consultant, advising leading Australian companies and financial sponsors on transactions and strategy development, at both SAY Consulting, which he founded in 2019, and as a Partner at L.E.K. Consulting.
Prior to becoming a consultant, Simon established and led the in-house M&A and strategy team for the Corporate and Asset Finance division of Macquarie Group. Over an 11 year period he originated and completed numerous transactions and new market entries across North America, Europe and Australia, leading to CAF becoming one of Macquarie's largest and most profitable groups.
From 1998-2006 he worked for GE Capital in Europe and Australia, with roles including in-house M&A, strategy, marketing and management, culminating in being CEO of GE Fleet Services in Australia and NZ.
His early career was in investment banking in the US, where he worked for Robertson Stephens (a technology focussed boutique later acquired by Bank of America), and in Australia where he worked for Hambros and BNP Paribas.
Simon has either led or advised on over $25 billion of M&A transactions and equity investments.
He holds an MBA from INSEAD, and a BCom from UNSW and is a graduate of the AICD.
